Cressida & Paisley Halter

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Pattern : Rowan Classic Woman
Yarn : 5 balls of Soft Lux in Basalt
Needle : 5mm Addi Turbo circular
Cost for this project: $45
Completed : Summer 2006

If you ask me how I feel about Cressida, I'm going to tell you this is my least favourite FO, ever! I'm so disapointed with her. Check out those huge sleeves. They looked like crap! My gauge was right on, nope definitely not the pattern. Did I cast on a bigger sleeve? Can't be!... On friday night, I spend the whole evening trying to figure out what went wrong with her. And of course, I couldn't find any fault. Well, who else to blame but myself. I have to admit I might have over blocked it a little...(a lot actually) Anyways, until I figure out what to do with her. I'm just going to let it sit in the closet. It's heartbreaking to see something nice turned out like crap. You think I can reblock the sweater? Is there such a thing call reverse blocking? Or perhaps, can I let it sit in the dryer for a few minutes. Will it help?

Pattern : Amy Butler Cabo Halter
Difficulty Level : 2
Fabric Cost : $9
Size: Small for 32"

Oh well...atleast something turned out right over the weekend. My third sewing project for the sewalong.

I see what you mean about the first top... at least the summer halter is incredibly cute, and right in season!

I'm sorry about the sweater. It does look a tad big. The AB halter top is awesome, though! Great job!

If it's going to sit in your closet - you might as well take a shot at the reverse blocking. Maybe some hot water and re-pinning?

The halter looks fab.

Sorry about that sweater, but the halter more than makes up for it! Great job! How long did it take you?

i say toss the sweater in the dryer -- if you aren't going to wear it anyway, it can't hurt. i still think it's really cute.

and the halter is to die for! i'm hankering to pull out my sewing machine.

That halter is HOT!!
I see what you mean about the sleeves now...how about sewing the excess bits and cut them off? Or taking out the sleeves and turns it into a vest, adding a little sleeves....hmm...

The halter turned out so cute, but I'm sorry to hear about Cressida. Before you put it in the dryer I'd stick a swatch in there to see what happens to the metallic thread, it won't shrink like the wool part of the yarn. If you don't feel like redoing it, how about trying to sew it smaller with your machine?

That's too bad about Cressida, I hope you figure out a way to fix her. Your halter, is great, you look so hot! Must take away a bit of the sting over your sweater.

The halter's fabulous! As for Cressida, how about using the sewing machine to sew inside the sleeve seams?

Do you have any friends or family who it would look nice on? It seems like a bit of a risk to try shrinking it (you don't really want that sort of sweater to be too thick) and cutting it up would be so hard to do!

I've been waiting to see how your Cressida turns out because it's next on my list on FOs. I'm so sorry to see that it's too big. It's such a cute top. What size did you knit? I know this might make you cringe, but maybe you should just frog it and reknit it in a smaller size, maybe even on smaller needles. I've had to frog a Rowan tank that I made in size small. It was huge! It was painful to undo all those hours of hard work, but I felt much better once the evidence was gone. I'm getting the feeling that Rowan sizes are very generous, especially evident on close fitting pieces.

It is too bad to hear that you are not happy with the cardigan! I hope that you can make some modifications. I think it is a beautiful color.

As for the halter? WOW! It is gorgeous. Love the pattern, and the fabric you chose. Brava Vanessa!!

I know how you feel about Cressida. Take a break from it and later you'll be able to decide how to rescue it. Maybe turn it into a vest or reknit the sleeves.
In the other hand your halter looks so charming! ;)

Sorry to hear about Cressida...Maybe you could give it to somebody that prefer a classic look top. I like the halter that you sewn, very hip!! Great job. ;)

I'm currently knitting on tess in the same pattern book as cressida. I use a different yarn but the gauge is ok. But the strange thing is that the end result is much bigger. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it is the pattern, that doesn't behave as expected. Or it is the design - for (elderly) women. I don't know, just wanted to share that not only you have a large endresult, though you thought your gauge was ok... One funny thing is that not many of the patterns from this book has actually been knitted up successfully in blogland... I don't know much about M. Storey, but perhaps this book wasn't his best or so?!?
