Ten Months

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Did I tell you how much I wanted to join Socktoberfest? How I wish I can knit a pair of sock like these. Did I also tell you I suck at sock knitting. Remember this? My very first sock knitting attempt. I started it 5 days before christmas in '05 and was hoping to finish it as DH christmas present. After 10 months I finally finished knitting the right side. Yup! Just the right side. How pathetic! And it came out nasty, especially at the toe decrease part. I'm not kiddin. I gotto take a picture. You'll definitely burst out laughing if you see it. Oh well, may be I should be glad that I didn't join. It's obvious I'm not ready to send a pair of crappy sock across the globe to some anxious knitter awaiting for her pretty handknit sock.

So what's going with knitting...here's my swatch for the rowan ryc moss stitch jacket using Rowanspun in Thorne. What do you think? It's a bit dull from the picture but I'm really liking the little fuzzy tweedy effect. I also did a swatch with Punch, another pumpkin, orangy kinda shade from the same line. It looks fine but I think I still prefer grey. Always go with your first instinct, right?

Alrighty, here's another progress shot of my verrrrrry slow going quilt project. I'm not surprise if I'm going to take another ten more months to complete the whole thing. Anyways, gotto get back to work before my boss spot me blogging again.

Oh Van, don't give up on socks yet! Socktoberfest is more about a celebration and learning process anyway, go for it!

I am another one that can not master on socks.
I've been looking for a double button cardi for a while. I like the one you are knitting, it's simple and elegant!

i knew i liked you for a reason...although i am quite good at the whole sock knitting thing...i hate it with a passion! sock knitting is so overrated as far as i am concerned.

For some reason, I'm still not into socks at all. The moss stitch looks really good! And the quilt pieces look so cute.

I love the colors in these quilt pieces! Wow--you're ambitious...I'm trying to get up the motivation to do a simple patchwork of squares!

Your quilt is turning out fine! Kudos to you for choosing such a difficult first project. Me, I just stuck to squares and the thing is gathering dust already.

Socks aren't for everyone Vanessa but don't give up just yet. Try another one on circular needles (one or two - I use one) and work from the toe up. It's absolutely my favourite way with socks.

There are several on-line guides including the well-known one at http://wendyjohnson.net/blog/sockpattern.htm
That's not what I use now but it's the one I started from and is an excellent starting point.

I am wanting to get into quilting and have hesitated many times to buy a starter kit. Do you know of any quilting books that are good for beginners? I'm going to try to pick on up when I'm home stateside.

Those little flowers are darling! I love the blue one. Lovely!
