Revealed

wright_1

Secret knitting revealed at last. Sorry I was kinda mysterious about this one. However to my dismay. I don't think it turned out as well as I had hoped. When I first saw this pattern on Berroco site, I thought it looks comfortable and elegant. In the same time, I was also looking forward to an easy knit for the tilli tomas silk yarn that I had purchased sometime ago. I printed out the pattern and happily cast on without any second thought that it might NOT look cute on me. In fact, it was a pretty smooth sailing knit. No major issue with the pattern except a minor mistake on the number of cast on stitches for the smallest size.

About a week into the knitting, half an hour of seaming, I'm found myself constanly having have to adjust that drapey neckline so that doesn't falls off my shoulders during a brief fifteen minutes photoshoot. It was really annoying. So after spending a whole chunk of my saturday morning thinking, hoping to salvage this top. I took out my scissors and the ball winder. And next I know you can imagine what I did. Oh well, atleast it wasn't so painful to unravel the entire top and I actually enjoyed working with those silk yarn. The color is gorgeous. Who knows someday I will be able to find a suitable pattern for it.

Anyways, enough of my ranting. How was your three day weekend? Did you get to rest, knit a lot or did something fun? Mine wasn't bad. Let see, I went to a ballroom dance class on friday nite. It was totally an impromtu thing that my co-worker invited me to. I learned some basics cha cha and rumba moves. It was kinda fun. Had some really yummy indian food after the dance class. I ordered the same old dishes for the fourth time but never got tired of eating it...chicken tikka masala and some garlic naan..delicious!! Saturday morning was boring, spend the entire morning looking at that drapeeey top. Got tired, went out and did some yarn shopping. Well, they are not for me. I did pretty good and managed to walk out with just a copy of the latest rowan for myself and some habu goodies for a friend. Sunday, I was home all day sewing and that was it. Oh! I also bought some painting supplies. Thanks to my dear friend Cassie's inspiration, I think I will spend some time working on this old hobby of mine very soon.

Well, despite that not so successful knitting, I do have some good things to share with you, some new projects and sewing. Will talk about it next time. And Carlene my dear, I just wanted to let you know I haven't forgot about your meme. I will get around it, I promise. Have a good week everyone!

Too bad you dont like it. I think it looks nice on you. I like the neckline especially. Hope you will find a suitable pattern for that yarn soon. That colour shade looks yummy.

too bad you already frogged it. A dress making tip is to put a strip the width you want the neck to expand to and attach it on either side of the neckline.

It was beautiful. At least you weren't too heartbroken as you wound.

What a beautiful colorway! I also think the neckline is very attractive on you! Next time have a vote before frogging!! :)

Well it is amazingly photogenic, the fit and color are lovely and very flattering. But none of that really matters if it's not wearable. It looks like something that would drive me nuts. Good that it wasn't too painful to frog.

Yours looked *so* much better than the Berocco version (assuming "wright" is the same pattern you used). At the very least you've inspired me (and maybe others) to try this pattern out with adjustments!

Oh god, you got me all gasping. First because it simply did look stunning to me... then because of the unraveling... could you not just have stood still and enjoy this beautiful piece?! Why all the moving and posing for those photos...?
;-)
Really too bad, could have been so nice.
On to your next projects... so curious what you are making!

I had wanted to knit this too. The top looks great on you but taking heed of what you said about the neckline, I'll just pass on this one. I'm sure you'll find something good for the yarn.

Well it looked gorgeous but as an experienced frogger I know what you mean when things just are not right! I love the yarns colour, to me that is the perfect red.

The picture is beautiful and the color is gorgeous, a shame that you didn't like the finished piece, but the yarn is too pretty to only be a so so garment.

It looked so beautiful in the photo, that my heart raced when I read that you had frogged it. Pity it didn't wear well. But the yarn is gorgeous, I'm sure you will find something marvelous for it in due time.

The yarn and colour look fantastic and it looks very good on you - but I quite agree with you about the fit on the shoulders. If it doesn't feel secure you'd always be fidgeting and fussing with it. I'm sure you'll find the perfect thing for that yarn!

I *really* envy you having such easy yarn shopping nearby!

Gosh, that stinks. It really does look beautiful on you! I hear you though, I did a top the beginning of summer and it keeps falling off my shoulders - I have to do what I can to unravel that too.

I bet the Tili Thomas yarn is great - I'm glad you were able to salvage the yarn anyway.

Oh no! It's too bad it didn't work out--it looks gorgeous from here. But, I know how sometimes the photos belie the truth about how a knit really behaves :) I hope you find another great pattern for the silk soon.

I am sorry to hear that you already frogged it. The photograph looks great - beautiful fit and drape. Of course, you know best :) I really like the shape, so maybe I should take a look at the pattern and think about some mods. Wishing you luck in finding a good match for the yarn!

How disappointing that it didn't turn out the way you wanted. The garment and the color are so beautiful and look very nice on you. But when it doesn't fit right and you have to keep adjusting...that just shows that those knitting magazines can make a garment look great when the model is standing completely still but it might not work in real life!

aw, too bad it didn't work out - it looks great on you, though if it's not something that's comfy to wear then all that work is for nothing. But you did get a really great photo out of it - that color is stunning. I'm sure you'll find something perfect to use it for.

I suppose it's not much consolation, but it looked great on you when it wasn't slipping off your shoulders. The fit in the body is perfect and I love that color! It sounds like you don't mind knitting with that yarn again :)

I too echo the comments above, the top looks great on you, the colour and the style. You know I wish there were ways to check the fit before the design is finished. Such a shame to rip it after all that hard work. Having said that I hope the next version turns out better. Your knitting is stunning.

September 05, 2007 9:41 AM
Blogger Marisol said...

Oh no too bad you ripped it back! The one thing I thought about immediately as a way to cheat and keep the top on your shoulders would have been to add a little ribbon on the inside with a snap so that you could fasten it under your bra strap. I've seen this done before.

Was this the only issue or was there a too much cleaveage issue as well?

The top is gorgeous and it looks amazing on you!

when i first saw the photo i thought wow that looks great. but can see why you frogged it no one needs the stress of having to hold their top on. have you thought about using one of the zephyr patterns for this? haven't heard any complaints about how they fit. i don't have the url memorized but will go get it and add it here.

September 05, 2007 10:42 AM

the Zephyr url is http://www.zephyrstyle.com

the Juilet pattern has a scooped neckline and i think the red would look nice in this. if you like the pattern that is.

V, that picture is so gorgeous and the color as every detail, but it's good you took a picture as a memory/reminder. How good a pretty and luscious top is when it's not functional.. there are ways to cheat that neckline, but so sorry you had to frog it all. May be just frogging the neckline and making something else for it.

What a pity that it's so fussy to wear - it looks great on you otherwise. That said, you made the right decision. I unravelled a nearly-complete sock this afternoon, to start it on slightly larger needles: what a difference 0.25mm makes! I suddenly feel much more positive about a pattern for which I'd previously felt so-so.
