weekendy

sidewalk

yes 21 more days to go! we'll be heading to paris, toulouse, cahors...thank you to friends whom already wrote to me about my trip and your list of recommendations. for the next few weeks, i'm going to be busy finishing up some work and practicing my french. this weekend was for the most part quite relaxing. i helped a friend babysat her 4 year old daughter. we had a fake picnic at the front porch, jamie said vanessa can you just pretend you're in the park :) we played hike and seek, drank tea, ate cookies and almonds, strawberries with chocolate sauce...hmm the joy of being with a kid! hope you had a wonderful, restful weekend.

Best wishes for learning French, I find it so hard! The knitting you had at the weekend looks lovely.

I don't have any specific recommendations of places to go, but you might want to peruse this blog, www.davidlebovitz.com, he is an American cookbook author living in Paris and he is often posting about places to find good food at. I particularly like this post: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2010/04/rue_montorgueil_les_halles_paris.html. Also, you might want to look at this post: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2010/04/10_things_to_do_stuck_stranded_in_paris_france.html.

I will suggest you try one McDonalds while there. When I was there in 2008, they were serving a dessert called a mandise; it's a little cake with little chocolate chips and then a dollop of something like Nutella in the center. Here's a picture of it, http://www.mcdonalds.com.mt/mcdonalds/content.aspx?id=77522, and don't let the photo turn you off, it is a very nicely executed pastry. I miss the mandise....
